Haynes-Marot Debate on The October Revolution

In The October Revolution (Haymarket, 2012), John Eric Marot applied ‘Robert Brenner’s analysis of pre-capitalist modes of production to early Soviet attempts at revolutionary transformation, concluding that none of the oppositional economic programs were feasible. Resisting the view that Stalin’s rise was inevitable, Marot hypothesize[d] that alternative to Stalinism was a New Economic Policy without collectivization and the Five-Year Plans.’

Here you can find a critical response by Mike Haynes, who mounts a challenge to political Marxism more broadly, and here you can find Marot’s response.
